Terms of service

Plain-English terms.

Last updated: 10 May 2026

OffTrail is free, has no accounts, and is provided as-is. Use it on roads and trails you are legally allowed to ride. Don't rely on it as the only safety system on a ride. Be a decent rider. Those are the terms.

The agreement

When you install or use OffTrail (the "App") you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, the cleanest fix is to not use the App. There is no signup, so there is no account to delete — uninstalling removes everything. The App is published by Ricardo Costa ("we", "us"); contact offtrail@offtrailapp.com.

What OffTrail is

An offline-first GPX navigation app for adventure motorcycling. You import a GPX track, the App shows the map and your position relative to the track, and records your ride as a GPX file you can export. There is no routing engine, no turn-by-turn voice guidance, no auto-recommended route, no community feed.

Use it at your own risk

OffTrail is a navigation aid, not a safety system. GPS positions can be wrong by tens of metres or wholly unavailable in canyons, dense forest, or under heavy cloud cover. Imported GPX tracks may be inaccurate, may cross legally restricted areas, may be unsafe for your bike or your skill level. You alone are responsible for deciding whether a route is safe and legal to ride, for staying within your abilities, for wearing the right gear, and for obeying every local law that applies to where you are.

We make no warranty that the App is fit for any particular purpose, will be available without interruption, will be free of bugs, or will work on any future iOS version. To the maximum extent allowed by law, our total liability for anything related to the App is capped at the amount you paid for the App, which is zero.

Permitted uses

Use the App for personal navigation. You may share the GPX files OffTrail records, post screenshots, and recommend the App to other riders. You may not:

Your data

OffTrail stores tracks, recordings, and offline tiles on your phone. Live location during a Group ride session goes through Apple iCloud (CloudKit), where Apple is the data controller. Everything else stays on the device. See the privacy policy for the full details.

Third-party services

OffTrail uses these external services to fetch map tiles and (optionally) sync group ride sessions:

If any of these services change their terms or become unavailable, we will adapt OffTrail accordingly in a future release. We are not responsible for outages or data handling at those providers.

Intellectual property

The App, including the brand mark, name, and original code, is the property of Ricardo Costa. OpenFreeMap, OpenStreetMap, Esri, MapLibre, Apple, and CloudKit credit and license terms are owned by their respective parties and apply where their content is rendered.

Termination

You can stop using the App at any time by uninstalling it. We may discontinue distribution at any time — in which case the App stops getting updates but a copy already on your device keeps working until iOS itself stops supporting it.

Disputes

These terms are governed by Portuguese law. Any dispute that can't be resolved by writing to offtrail@offtrailapp.com first goes to the competent Portuguese courts. EU consumers retain their statutory rights, including the right to bring a complaint in their country of residence.

Changes

We may update these terms when we ship features that change what the App does (e.g. group ride v2, future cloud features). The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent change. Material changes will be flagged in-app on the Settings screen so you don't have to refresh this page to know.
